KEYNOTE:
September Sweet, MSSW

September Sweet is a social worker, community activist, and public health advocate from Knoxville, TN.

She has worked in human services and social science research for a combined ten years, ranging from animal welfare to end-user experience to disability rights. Her areas of interest are capacity development, the nature of joy, radical empathy, community care, and burnout prevention.

She combines the knowledge of a clinician, a certified peer recovery specialist, and lived experience to translate, refine, and amplify narratives of resilience and resistance from traditionally marginalized groups.

Her efforts focus primarily on mental illness, the LGBTQ+ community, and adverse colonial or cultural events. September enjoys challenging the perception of what individuals on the spectrum are, could do, and can be through her own journey with autism.
